Lion’s Park Boardwalk Winter Hike
The Lion’s Park Boardwalk is a nice boardwalk within a less than 10 minute walk from the cabin. If you are looking for a quick little hike to stretch your legs in the morning, or perhaps to catch the sunset over the lake, this is a great activity. 700 meters from the Kearney Cabin and 190 meters around the boardwalk, it would take you between 20 to 30 minutes depending how fast you walk.
The walk to the Lion’s Park Boardwalk is along Main Street in Kearney. You will see many cute homes in the area but please do walk on the side of the road. It is the main street to the town. On your way you will be walking past the entrance to the White’s Farm Trail which at 1.6 km is a much longer and more difficult trail.
When you get to Lion’s Park the trail begins to the right side (when facing the lake) of the parking lot. It follows a meandering creek out as it opens into the lake. There is a beautiful lookout point and then it continues until you come out by a little park. If you walk to the left (facing away from the lake) of the pavilion you will be back into the parking lot. And that is the Lion’s park boardwalk.
If you want to make more of a day out of it, bring your ice skates with you. The pavilion is turned into a skating rink in the winter and is a great place to spend an afternoon.
