Camp Fire

Burning a campfire is one of the most relaxing things to due while visiting a cottage or camping. Roasting marshmallows, telling ghost stories, poking at the embers. It is a great way to unwind. At Kearney Cabin, there is a 12 foot by 12 foot area with a fire pit in the middle. Lots of room for a family or group of friends to gather around. Just remember that you must follow the fire rating AND get a burn permit.

Burn permits can be purchased in town at the general store at the corner of Main St and Rain Lake Road, Fetterley’s Garage on the corner of Main and Highway 518, or at Canoe Algonquin on Highway 518. Please bring $2 in cash as they only accept money for payment of the burn permit (will not accept interact or credit, or add it to your bill). Burn permit is good for 3 days.

You must also follow the Burn Rating. Between April 1st and October 31st there is absolutely NO DAYTIME BURNING. Wild fires are a real risk up north, especially during the dryer months of the summer. Low risk (Green), Moderate (Yellow), and High (Orange) ratings means you can have a campfire between 6pm and 10am. You must have a means of extinguishing the fire if requested. There is a garden hose on the side of the cabin that can easily reach and there is a fire extinguisher in the cabin to use in case of an emergency. Red (Extreme) is a total fire ban. Any campfires during this time – no matter how small – may result in a fine from the fire department which could be several thousands of dollars. You will be responsible for any fines. So no burning during a fire ban.
